Happy Birthday!

Well, the day has come… my baby girl is now one year old.  Bring on the big fat ugly tears. 😥  Now, don’t get me wrong… I am thrilled that she is now a little one year old and so much more fun to do things with, but it does make me sad and emotional that she is not my little baby anymore and I will never get to enjoy newborn snuggles again.  We do not plan to have more children, so I have been trying to take in each and every day with her as much as humanly possible.  🙂

One year ago today, I was walking into the hospital, awaiting to go into surgery for my c-section.  I had a very long and terrible labour with Parker, which resulted in a c-section, so I opted to have another c-section with Dylann and forego the labour this time around.  I remember being so nervous for the surgery, but so excited to hold my baby girl.

At 1:35 p.m., our little 6 lbs 0 oz peanut was born.  She was so tiny, I could hardly believe it, especially since I had gained 55 lbs during my pregnancy!  Umm, where is my big chunky baby that has caused me to gain all of this weight?  Lol.  From that day on, she has fit into our family like she was always meant to be with us.  I can’t even imagine life without her now.

From the beginning, Dylann was always a very chill, go-with-the-flow baby.  During her first summer, she spent many of her days at the spray pads, outdoor pools, Sherwood Forrest, and random parks around the city.  Parker was in kindergarten, so off for the afternoons, and then off school for two months for summer holidays, so I definitely couldn’t keep him cooped up at home all day with a new baby.  She learned to adapt to her surroundings and actually loved being outside.  When he started grade 1 and I was home with her all day, I often had to get out of the house and just walk around the mall or find something to do because she hated being in the house all day long.  She wasn’t used to it.

Throughout the past year, we have watched Dylann grow and develop her own personality.  She was absolutely crazy in my belly, kicking and punching all day long, I thought she would be a terror when she was born, but she proved me wrong.  She slept all day long for a good month or so lol.  But I’m starting to think now that she might be turning into that baby that used to abuse my insides for months.  Literally, we can be sitting on the couch with her, cuddling all nice, and the next second she is trying to rip out your hair or claw you to death with her razors lol.  She actually thinks it’s hilarious, and when we give her heck or tell her “no”, she smiles and laughs and does it more.  Ugh… we are hoping this is just a phase lol.

While Dylann isn’t crawling the traditional way yet, she sure knows how to get around.  She is a backwards crawler.  I just have to tell a quick story from the other day, so bear with me.  We were at a play date with a few friends (many of my girlfriends all have babies that are around Dylann’s age).  So we are all sitting on the floor chatting, and I can’t remember what happened to Dylann, whether she got bumped or what, but she started to cry (a little fake cry) and was turning to look where I was.  As soon as she found me, she stopped crying, got onto all fours, crawled backwards to me, then plopped herself on her butt beside me, looked up at me and started to cry again.  It was pretty adorable. ❤

We all just love our girl so much, and even though turning one is a tough pill for me to swallow, I can’t wait to watch her grow.  I am so excited for the days that she will be running around playing with her big brother and her favourite “person” in the whole wide world – Ollie (seriously, she is obsessed with our dog).  I am looking forward to a summer with her filled with camping and vacations.

Happy 1st Birthday, Dylann!

Love, Mom. ❤ xoxo

Winter Wonderland

I have been patiently waiting for the hoar frost this winter… waiting… and waiting…  At last, I awoke to the beauty of it last Wednesday morning!  It was like looking out into a dream land, so gorgeous!  As per usual, I always do a monthly photo for Dylann since she was born.  I was due for her 10 month photo, so this was perfect timing!

I quickly drove Parker to school while admiring the beautiful trees covered in snow and frost and planning out my shoot.  By the time I got back home, it was time for Dylann’s nap, which was good, since I still had to plan out an outfit for her and think of a good location.

As the morning went on, I peaked outside and realized that the frost was already melting away.  Que frantic-run-around-like-crazy-and-throw-everything in a bag mode.  I quickly grabbed Dylann, changed her, and buckled her into the car.  Off we went… but I still had no idea where I was going!

I ended up just driving down the block to the open fields behind us and finding a nice little area that still had quite a bit of frost on the shaded side of the trees.  I pull over down the road, carry Dylann (in her car seat) across the snowy field and start laying out a blanket for her.  I’m just about to unbuckle her and take her out when I notice she’s missing her toque… and there was a bit of a cool breeze, so I needed that dang toque!!  I knew I packed it, so off I go running back to the car, grabbing the toque, and running back into the field.  I’m sure if any passersby had seen me, they would have thought I was some weirdo running around in the snow with my baby in her car seat… lol.

Finally, after all that hustle, I was able to get the photo I wanted.  It was so worth it and I can’t wait to frame one of these!
